Unit Overview
The West Islip Fire Department Fire Police Unit plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and operational integrity of emergency scenes. Tasked primarily with traffic control, scene security, and logistical support, the Fire Police are present at nearly all alarms - excluding medical rescue calls - as well as community events and special details.
Currently staffed by 29 dedicated members, the Fire Police are equipped and trained to manage incident perimeters, direct traffic, assist with crowd control, and support fire operations through communications and coordination with law enforcement.
