| During the weekend of April 18-19, 2026, the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY) will host its annual RecruitNY campaign, where volunteer fire and EMS departments across the state of New York will welcome the public to experience what it’s like to be a volunteer firefighter and EMT.
The West Islip Fire Department is proud to partner with FASNY to support the crucial goal of ensuring that our volunteer departments are appropriately staffed with members to keep our communities and residents safe.
In support of this mission, the West Islip Fire Department will be hosting two “Day in the Life” events at WIFD Headquarters. These will be geared toward residents who meet the minimum age and residency requirements for membership, which are 17 years of age and a current resident of West Islip Fire District.
The events will be as follows:
- Day in the Life of a Firefighter – Saturday, April 18th from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
- Day in the Life of an EMT – Sunday, April 19th from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Community members are welcome to visit our facilities to participate in events which showcase what it is that we do on a daily basis. Visitors will experience scenario-based role-playing activities, simulated training opportunities, equipment demonstrations, and more.
